
Azot (Berezniki, Perm region) – one of the largest producers of ammonia and ammonia based nitrogen fertilizers (ammonium nitrate and urea) Azot is the only producer of higher aliphatic amines, potassium and sodium nitrates, crystallized sodium nitrite. In 2010 the volume of production amounted to 1.9 million tonnes of marketable products.
Azot is a successful and rapidly developing business with sustainable manufacturing process and high quality production. From 2005 the plant has been producing porous modified ammonium nitrate that is in demand in Austria, Indonesia, Latin America and other countries.
History
1929 – Beginning of construction of Berezniki Chemical Works.
1932 – First synthetic ammonia – the factory’s major product – was manufactured.
1974 – Transfer of ammonia production from coke to natural gas.
1970?80s – Reconstruction of the plant. New facilities are built: 2 large-tonnage ammonia plants, workshops of weak nitric acid, granular ammonium nitrate, urea, nitrite-nitrate salts, sodium nitrate.
1996 – Production of new material for manufacturing purposes - porous ammonium nitrate - has commenced.
October 2007 – Creation of United Chemical Company URALCHEM, OJSC that united the largest Russian companies specializing in mineral fertilizers production.
In December 2008 URALCHEM, OJSC controls 100% of equity capital of Azot, OJSC.
In December 2010 Azot, OJSC was dissolved after reorganization in the form of merger with URALCHEM, OJSC. All property of the industrial complex was transferred to Azot Branch of URALCHEM, OJSC in Berezniki.
