Support of local communities

Uralchem implements a number of social and charity programmes supporting its host territories. The Company’s production facilities establish reliable and mutually beneficial relations with local communities, and develop long-term projects addressing their specific needs.

Charity programmes supporting local communities are split into six main blocks:

  • Uralchem for Children: support of kindergartens, schools, orphanages, children’s sport clubs and foundations; implementation of educational, healthcare and recreational projects for children and families;
  • Uralchem for Veterans: support to war and labour veterans, senior citizens with special needs, veteran organisations and foundations; participation in festive events commemorating the Victory Day etc.;
  • Uralchem for Regions: improvement of the urban environment, landscaping, road repairs, community days, environmental events and other regional initiatives;
  • Uralchem for Education and Science: support of universities, financing of research, implementation of the School-University-Employment programme, career guidance activities;
  • Uralchem for Cultural Traditions: assistance to museums and cathedrals; facilitation of concerts, exhibitions, festivals and other regional cultural and art events;
  • Uralchem for Sports: support of a number of sports schools and federations, organisation of championships and other competitions.

In total, the Company allocated over RUB 1 billion for charity and sponsorship activities in 2023.

Community engagement approach

The Company's charity activities are governed by the federal laws "On charity activities and organisations" and "On advertising", and also by the internal Charity and Sponsorship Policy.

The policy reflects the main goals and principles used to determine the efficiency of spending on charity and social projects.

Uralchem for Children

Under this programme, the Company runs joint activities with kindergartens and schools, participates in municipal and themed events, and provides necessary support to children’s clubs and associations.

In particular, the KCKK branch works closely with educational institutions in the Kirovo-Chepetsk municipality and district. In 2023, it allocated over RUB 4 million in grants for the implementation of educational projects.

Also last year, the VMF branch traditionally became a partner of the Colours of the Summer youth festival, and financed renovations at the Gorizont secondary school and the Khorlovsky boarding school for children with health limitations. The municipal commission on juvenile affairs in Voskresensk issued a letter of appreciation to the plant for its participation in the New Year’s Miracle event and the purchasing of New Year’s presents for disadvantaged children.

In Berezniki, the Azot branch actively uses its cultural and sports centre to support young talents, develop children’s sport, and hold various kinds of events.

Uralchem for Veterans

This programme focuses on supporting retired employees and veteran organisations. The Company pays quarterly allowances to labour veterans and helps them with healthcare and recreational issues.

The KCKK traditionally provides administrative and financial support to the regional council of war, labour, military, and law enforcement veterans in Kirovo-Chepetsk, and also to the municipal department of the Russian Union of Veterans of the Afghan War.

The VMF branch extends its aid to the council of veterans of the municipal department of internal affairs, and also to the local branch of the Russian Red Cross.

All of Uralchem’s production facilities provide financing to their respective veteran organisations. This includes monthly allowances, reimbursement of medical expenses, purchases of medicinal drugs, vouchers to health centres, cultural and sports activities. In particular, the Azot branch allocated around RUB 16 million for these purposes in 2023.

Uralchem for Regions

In this block, the Company focuses on the development of host regions, improvement of the urban environment, landscaping, road repairs, community days and environmental events.

For instance, every year the KCKK branch extends social partnership agreements with the region’s municipalities and districts. The plant helps local administrations to implement key social and projects like the annual Good Harvest and Good Sprout events, and also contributes to road safety initiatives.

In a similar arrangement with the administration of Berezniki, the Azot branch co-finances educational, cultural and sport projects.

In 2023, the PMF branch helped the Perm administration by purchasing 300 transplants of Siberian pine, which were subsequently planted in the Perm City Forest, and also provided mineral fertilisers for the plantation.

Uralchem’s branches traditionally make organisational and financial contributions to celebrate annual City Days in their respective municipalities.

Uralchem for Education and Science

This charity block aims to support educational projects and scientific research. Every year, Uralchem finances grant competitions, helps educational institutions with purchasing necessary equipment, and provides individual scholarships to talented students.

For several years now, Uralchem has been collaborating with the Sirius Educational Centre to develop and improve overall quality of education. In particular, in 2023 Uralchem became an industrial partner of the Start Your Project initiative of the Sirius ecosystem, which started in 2022, to seek young talents in Russian regions. The Company is also a partner and a participant of the Big Challenges contest of research projects held among school and university students.

In Perm, the PMF branch awarded a local school student and his teacher for winning the regional stage of the Russian Academic Olympics in Chemistry.

The KCKK branch allocated over RUB 4 million in 2023 for educational projects, while the VMF branch financed renovations of educational institutions in Voskresensk.

The Company also conducts regular open classes in chemical and environmental science in its host cities.

Uralchem for Cultural Traditions

Under this programme, the Company supports spiritual and cultural development of young people.

In 2023, the KCKK branch provided financial assistance to Provintsia, a local comedy team, which represents Kirovo-Chepetsk in municipal and regional humour contests, and also supported the Vyatka Seven Hills 2023 media forum and the Recognition media award.

On an annual basis, Uralchem’s production facilities provide financing to maintain and renovate cultural centres, museums and creativity clubs for children and adults.

Uralchem for Sports

Uralchem actively develops federal and regional projects in numerous disciplines, invites celebrity athletes to hold master classes for amateurs and professionals. The Company also supports various contests, cups, championships, and corporate games.

For over a decade, Uralchem has been the general sponsor of the Russian national swimming team and has been providing financial support to the Russian Swimming Federation.

At the plant level, the KCKK branch finances a children’s hockey club in Kirovo-Chepetsk, helps arrange competitions in swimming, Greсo-Roman wrestling and judo. In 2023, with support from Uralchem, two non-profit organisations were established – the Hockey Development Centre and the Olympia Hockey School.

On their part, the PMF and Azot branches support the Perm Regional Swimming Federation.
