Uralchem Implements Digital Solutions at Ugandan Farm

AgroSignal, a leading digital platform for agribusiness management and part of Uralchem Group, launched a pilot project to implement its IT solutions at a private crop farm in Uganda. The practical testing and adaptation of the platform will take place over the course of a year.

The project spans across 500 hectares planted with soybeans and maize, which are key food crops in this East African country. The expected benefits of the digital system include up to a 30% reduction in agricultural input costs, as well as increased productivity and crop yields.

AgroSignal’s high-tech solutions, refined over a decade of use by major agricultural companies in Russia and the CIS, are capable of addressing complex farm management challenges — many of which are also relevant to Africa.

The implementation in Uganda is facilitated by local partners, including agricultural consultants who provide initial technical support and user training. The pilot project also aims to adapt some of AgroSignal’s services to meet the needs of local farmers and find solutions that could prove valuable not just for Uganda but for Africa as a whole.

Olga Poltavskaya, Uralchem Marketing Director:

The digitalisation of a farm in Uganda marks our first large-scale IT project in Africa. According to the UN data, the continent has over 350 million hectares of arable land, and experts estimate the potential market for digital and IoT solutions in agriculture at 100 million hectares — a figure comparable to the total area of cultivated lands in Russia. As one of the world’s largest producers of fertilisers and innovative agricultural solutions, we are committed to long-term collaboration with African farmers to build a strong and efficient agricultural sector. As part of these efforts, we provide local farmers with access to cutting-edge IT solutions in crop farming.

Vladimir Korshunov, AgroSignal Strategy Director:

Essentially, African farmers face mainly the same challenges that we have been addressing for domestic and neighbouring agribusinesses for more than a decade. For instance, they want to track consumption of fuel and lubricants, ensure reliable monitoring of field activities, and avoid errors during sowing or chemical treatment of fields. The digitalisation project will streamline management of this Ugandan farm, boost its efficiency, and ultimately increase profitability of operations. The practical outcomes of this project will shape AgroSignal’s expansion strategy across the African continent.

AgroSignal is a leading digital agribusiness management platform. Over the past decade, it has been adopted by farms cultivating more than 8.5 million hectares — around 10% of Russia’s arable land. Using IoT technologies, the platform collects and processes real-time data from sensors installed on farm machinery and workstations, enabling farmers to make fast and informed decisions through transparent recording and monitoring of all production processes. By 2025, AgroSignal has become one of the most widely used digital solutions in Russian crop farming, demonstrating exponential growth thanks to its expanding functionality and deep industry expertise of its specialists.
